The Amorphoscelidae are small mantids and includes two sub-families, the Amorphoscelinae from the Mediterranean and Oriental regions and Africa, and the Paraoxypilinae from the sub-Saharan Africa and Australian regions. Mantids in this family often have prominent projections on their head and their cryptic patterns render them inconspicuous when resting on tree bark.
