Annecke, David Paul (1928-1981)

Entomologist, specialising in parasitic Hymenoptera, who worked at the Plant Protection Research Institute (PPRI).

8 June 1928 0 Born in Durban. Son of Siegfried Annecke.
1950 22 Graduated with B.Sc. from University of Pretoria.
1954 26 Joined the Division of Entomology as a nematode systematist but 18 months later turned to parasitic Hymenoptera and biological control.
1958 30 Married Barbara Philcox.
1959 31 Went to California to work under Harold Compere on parasitic wasps.
1964 36 Became head of the Biological Control Section of the Plant Protection Research Institute.
1965 37 Graduated with DSc (cum laude) from University of Pretoria for thesis on the biology of the soft brown scale on citrus and its parasitoid complex.
1975 47 Appointed Deputy Director of Plant Protection Research Institute.
1979 51 Appointed Director (personal grading) of the Plant Protection Research Institute, enabling him to concentrate on research.
24 Feb 1981 52 Died tragically.

Authored 74 research publications on citrus entomology, parasitic Hymenoptera, and biological control.

Specimens collected

Most of specimens collected are housed in the Plant Protection Research Institute (PPRI), Pretoria.
