Junod, Rev. Henri-Alexandre (1863-1934)

Swiss missionary and ethnographer who collected insects mainly at Rikatla in Mozambique, and Shiluvane near Tzaneen in South Africa.

Trained as a protestant minister at Neucha^tel, Basle and Berlin.

Missionary in Rikatla, Mozambique under Mission Suisse Romande. Collected insects extensively, particularly butterflies.

Interests changed to languages and ethnography.

1896-1899

 

Living in Switzerland.

?

 

Established school for evangelists at Shiluvane near Tzaneen.

1907

 

Returned to Rikatla.

1921

 

Retired to Switzerland.

22 Apr 1934

 

Died in Geneva. Buried at his request at Rikatla.

Specimens

Mainly butterflies housed in museum at Neuchƒtel and in the Transvaal Museum.
