Ten species, native to the Mediterranean, Asia, Malesia, southern USA and Central America. Six species are cultivated in southern Africa including Pistacia vera, which produces Pistachio nuts.

Native from the Canary Islands eastwards to Pakistan.

 

Pistacia chinensis (Chinese pistachio)

Native from China to the Philippines

 

Pistacia integerrima

Native from Afghanistan to western China.

 

Pistacia lentiscus (Mastic)

Native to the Mediterranean.

 

Pistacia terebinthus (Terebinth)

Native to the western Mediterranean.

 

Pistacia vera (Pistachio)

Native from Iran to central Asia.
