Nothofagaceae
Thirty-five species, native to southern Pacifc rim, including
Chile, eastern Australia, New Zealand and New Guinea; also known from fossils in
Antarctica. Six species have been cultivated in southern Africa. Previously
placed in the Fagaceae.
