Ascidia sydneiensis (Crevice ascidian)

Distribution includes South Africa, Japan, Australia, west Pacific Ocean, west Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean (Kott 2005). In southern Africa it has been recorded from Knysna (Western Cape) (record under Ascidia compta in Monniot et al. 2001), Port Elizabeth (Eastern Cape) and Maputo (Mozambique) (Branch et al. 2010). Picker & Griffiths (2011) list it as an alien and invasive animal in southern Africa but this needs confirmation.
