"Plants form large mats, up to 0.5 m in diameter, of densely aggregated bulbs on flat, exposed sandstone rock slabs where, together with several dwarf succulent species, they are partly concealed by lichen and moss (Dold & Brink 2006).

Distribution and habitat

Known from two mountain peaks in the Stormberg and Winterberg of the Eastern Cape.

Seasonality

  • Flower from December to January. Flowering time during the day ranges from about 14h30 to 19h00.

  • Plants are dormant for about two to three weeks in late January.
