The 21 species in this genus of coniferous trees have an indigenous distribution covering Australia (Queensland), New Zealand and SE Asia, where they are found mainly in rainforest. Six species have been cultivated in southern Africa.

Native to New Zealand.

 

Agathis borneensis (Bamboeng, Damar minyak)

Native to Malaysia and Indonesia.

 

Agathis dammara (Almaciga, Damar malolo, Kalane)

Native to Indonesia.

 

Agathis microstachya (Bull kauri)

Native to Australia.

 

Agathis robusta (Queensland kauri)

Native to Queensland, Australia, where it grows mainly in dry marginal rainforest on Fraser Island and in southern Queensland between Tewantin and Maryborough.
