Twenty-eight genera and 298 species are native to southern Africa,
with six genera and 10 species naturalised, and nine genera and 37 species
cultivated.

Single species Adenanthellum osmitoides endemic to southern Africa
(Mpumalanga, Swaziland and northern KwaZulu-Natal).

Adenoglossa decurrens is the only species and is found in the Richtersveld, Northern
Cape.

Artemisia
A total of 388 species globally, found mainly in the northern hemisphere.
In southern Africa, one species is native, one species is naturalised and
five species are cultivated.

The 39 species are all endemic to southern Africa.

Achillea
About 115 species have been recorded globally. The only species in
southern Africa is Achillea millefolium which is an introduced
weed.

Leucanthemum vulgare is a naturalised weed in southern Africa,

SolivaThe 8 species are native to South America (most of them), North America
and Australia. Soliva sessilis is an introduced weed in southern

Tanacetum
cinerariifolium
(main commercial source of natural pyrethrum) is widely cultivated in southern Africa and has become
naturalised.
Six other species are cultivated in the region.
