A short-lived annual that comes up after winter or early spring showers (Steinter 2006).

Identification

Easily identified by the small, white flowers with a tiny spur and the seed which is winged on only one side (Steiner 2006).

Distribution and habitat

Endemic to Namaqualand in the Northern Cape, South Africa where it is restricted to the Kamiesberg and adjacent rocky hills.

Flowering time

June to September.

Pollination

Self-incompatible so a plant is not able to provide fertile seeds by self-fertilization. Probably pollinated by small pollen-collecting bees such as halictids and allodapines (Steiner 2006).

Derivation of name

Named after the distinctive partially winged seeds.
