America. Six species are cultivated in southern Africa, including
the familiar Tropaeolum majus
(Nasturtium).

Native to the Andes in South America, from Bolivia to Colombia. A
common weed in Cape Town, in gardens and along roadsides and riverbanks but
is not yet listed as a naturalised species on
