Species occurring in southern Africa
There are a number of species that are referred to as
weavers but which are not in the genus Ploceus. In southern Africa, these
include Bubalornis niger (Redbilled
Buffalo Weaver), Plocepasser mahali (Whitebrowed Sparrow-Weaver),
Amblyospiza
albifrons (Thickbilled Weaver), Philetairus socius (Sociable Weaver),
and Anaplectes melanotis (Redheaded Weaver).
